Death Doula Services

At Longmont Care Circle, as death doulas and grief workers, we provide support for people at all stages of the living-to-dying spectrum, from early conversations about end-of-life wishes to care through active dying and grief support for loved ones of the deceased.

Our approach is fiercely client-centered, grounded in the wishes and needs of the dying person, and inclusive of their loved ones and care team. We are not a substitute for medical care, but a compassionate companion and advocate alongside it, helping to bring more humanity, clarity, and peace into the process of dying.

We believe death work is life work. We know that tending to the dying and the grieving is an act of profound love and community care. Our role is to walk alongside you and your loved ones with presence, tenderness, and respect, helping you meet this sacred threshold with as much intention, peace, and authenticity as possible.

For those facing the end of life, we offer:

  • Collaboration with your medical and care team
  • Education and emotional support for both the dying person and their loved ones
  • Legacy work and funeral or celebration of life planning
  • Support in planning how the last days of life will look, sound, and feel
  • Assistance with paperwork and documentation
  • Advocacy with clinicians, extended family, and caregivers to uphold the client's desired atmosphere and boundaries
  • Relaxation or guided imagery work to ease anxiety and support peace
  • 11th-hour presence at the bedside
  • Non-medical support for Medical Aid in Dying (MAID)
  • Gentle assistance with simple physical care such as mouth care, repositioning, or applying cool compresses or a warm blanket
  • Assistance with calls to friends, family, or the funeral home immediately after death

Additional services:

  • Education and guidance on natural body care and eco-friendly body disposition
  • Funeral celebrancy
  • Grief circles and conversations about death and dying
  • Support in planning how the dying person would like the last days of life to feel
  • Early grief education and referrals to ongoing grief resources when appropriate

Getting started with care

We believe everyone deserves quality support through death, dying, and grief, regardless of financial circumstance. At this time, our doula services are offered pro bono or by donation.

While we fully believe in paying death doulas for their important and skilled work, this offering is one of the ways we, Sarah Jane and Abby, give back to our community. If you choose to make a donation to Longmont Care Circle, your contribution helps us sustain this work and continue offering care to others in need. Financial contribution is never a requirement.

If you're interested in working with us, please reach out to schedule a consultation call.

We'll discuss your needs, answer questions, and ensure we're a good fit. From there, we'll arrange an in-person meeting to explore your goals and design a plan of care together.

To honor the depth of this work, we companion only one or two clients at a time, ensuring each person receives our full presence and care.
